Client Need:
For the state of the art campus at Fitzsimmons, UCHSC wanted a floor that could stand up to heavy foot traffic, was easy to maintain and didn't sacrifice aesthetics.
Solution:
Polishing the concrete allows for a very hard and therefore durable floor, which requires very little maintenance. Using the new product of concrete dyes, available to Colorado Hardscapes through Bomanite, expanded the possibilities of coloring the concrete floor. Concrete dyes are available in a wide range of colors and can be applied as water based or solvent based.
They do not react chemically with the concrete but utilize very fine colorants that penetrate the concrete and produce coloration similar to what you might expect from a chemical stain. Dyes are easy to apply, quick to dry, produce immediate color, and require little clean-up, resulting in earlier completion of a project.
Results:
The reflectivity of the floor puts the light from all of the building's windows to good use and the needs of the client were fulfilled. The Bomanite Corporation awarded the project a Bronze Award in the polished concrete category in their 2007 Annual Project Awards.
