CASE STUDY INDEX
Client Need:
A world-class resort, The Broadmoor Hotel, began a major renovation in the year 2000 and needed to install large areas of decorative concrete in keeping with the standards of the hotel. Aesthetically, both color and texture were important to compliment the stucco façade of the hotel itself, and maintain the quality of a five star resort. Matching the existing stone work and not disrupting the gardens were important when completing the final phase of new paving for the entrance to the hotel. For all phases, the general contractor needed a concrete contractor who could stay within budget with an ever changing schedule while working with (and around) multiple sub-contractors.

Solution:
The challenge on phase one of the project was to complete all 17,165 square feet in 11 days. Most of our pours were between 1,300 and 1,600 sq. ft.; however, Colorado Hardscapes was able to set a personal record of 2,695 sq. ft. poured at one time with a 9-man crew.

For the second phase, 24,000 sq. ft. of Bomanite® was installed. More than half of this work had to be prepared, poured, stamped, saw cut, cleaned, stained and sealed in half the original time frame given, due to problems on other parts of the construction.

Results:
The project was completed on time for The Broadmoor to open the pool on schedule. Altogether, Colorado Hardscapes poured 41,165 square feet of Bomanite imprinted concrete around The Broadmoor Hotel in the first two phases of their renovation. For various patios, Colorado Hardscapes used a Heavy Slate texture mat and diamond saw-cuts, and then the entire surface was stained with a multi-colored Patène Artectura stain system to simulate real stone. For the new pool deck and function terrace, square sections of Bomanite® were stained along the edge of the pool deck to set off private tented cabanas. Further staining was done on the floor of a meeting room at the edge of the cabanas.

Like the cabanas, the function terrace was stained with Olive and Auburn reactive stain and includes a saw-cut pattern with perimeter band. English Slate texture mats were used to texture the Colorado Buff color hardened concrete. A saw cut pattern was laid out for visual appeal. In addition to the flatwork at the pool, Colorado Hardscapes worked on the infinity edge dividing the lake and pool waters. Finally, in the third phase, concrete with special black beauty aggregate was installed next to the exisiting pavers at the front of the hotel.
