 Patène Artectura

Patène Artectura is the Bomanite® process for staining concrete, a time-tested procedure to add color to finished concrete. Acid-based chemical stains react with the calcium hydroxide in the concrete to produce the popular, custom-colored, earth-tone effect that has dominated the stain scene. The color range has expanded in recent years to include pastels and very vibrant colors by using water-based stains, penetrating sealers, and concrete dyes.

Staining concrete performs well on a variety of applications:

  • Interior and exterior concrete
  • Horizontal and vertical surfaces
  • Most finished textures
  • In conjunction with integral colors or color hardeners
  • As a coloring agent on Micro-Top® surfacing

  • Each application is distinctive and provides the opportunity to create a unique project. As seen in the case studies above, the staining process created three very different looks to fit the project’s desired theme.

In all cases, the longevity and durability of the finished product depends on proper preparation of the surface. This preparation involves cleaning and opening up the surface so the stain can penetrate and properly adhere to the concrete. Interior floor preparation utilizes diamond grinding and polishing. Exterior applications use acid washing or sandblasting.

Dan Zigterman has been with Colorado Hardscapes for more than 26 years. Prior to that he worked after school and during the summer with his father in the construction industry. After obtaining his college degree in history, he came to work for Colorado Hardscapes. He has been with the company ever since.

Dan began his career at Colorado Hardscapes as a laborer where he learned how to grade, reinforce, set forms, and properly place concrete. Dan was a foreman for 14 years, the Custom Division's manager for 9 years after that, and now he leads the company as Operations Manager, a title he has had for the past 3 years. As Operations Manager Dan oversees seven production divisions and he works daily with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and project managers. Commenting on his experiences over the past 26 years Dan said, “Each year I see our abilities and capabilities improve. I am proud to serve with such an outstanding team.”
